Mobility:
The Sedgwick County Zoo is relatively flat but a pretty good sized zoo. They do have electric scooters and wheelchairs for rent. As with most other zoos, they tend to run out of scooters on nice weekends, special events, and holidays.
Food and Drink:
The Sedgwick County Zoo has a few places to eat, as well as small drink and snack stands throughout most of the zoo. Though the prices may seem “high”, remember the proceeds go to the zoo and conservation.
Plaza Beastro
This facility is the largest place to eat and has indoor seating. There are several types of menu items such as sandwiches, burgers, salads, and pie. They have a listing for “Vegetarian”, “Dairy Free”, “Gluten Friendly”, “Vegan”, and “Contains Nuts”. It looked like there was a selection for all needs, though sometimes limited.
Nganda Cafe
This cafe has limited fare and has no inside seating. The menu is mostly sandwiches, with some snack foods (nachos and popcorn) as well.
Baobab Cafe
Unfortunately I did not get a photo of the menu. I thought it was the back side of the Nganda Cafe, oops.
Souvenirs:
There is a gift shop at the entrance/exit of the zoo. It has various sweat shirts, t-shirts, toys, mugs, and drink glasses. As I mentioned at other zoos, though the prices may seem “high” the proceeds go to the zoo and conservation.
Safety:
The Australian and South America areas have free roaming animals, mostly birds. People, including kids, should not chase the animals or corner them, since aggressive behavior or a peck from an animal (even a bird) can sour an other wise wonderful trip to the zoo.
Miscellaneous:
While I was there they had “Alice in Wonderland” displays.
I would check regularly for special displays and events. For example, I have seen photos of “Wild Lights” at Christmas time.
