This was established by...American TORTOISE rescue.  It is designed to raise awareness of turtle and tortoise conservation.  This year I believe the theme is on sea turtles.

World Swift Day is to improve awareness of these fascinating little birds.

National Cougar Day is to celebrate the cougar which once roamed over the entire United States, but has been extirpated from most of it's eastern range.
